Ideallision (2011-12)
Ideallision was created for the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)'s experimental fashion event, Milquetoast. A collaborative event, Milquetoast was composed of collections from 16 designers who worked together to produce the event, all while also working on their own designs.
Of Japanese and American descent, I investigated the ideals of beauty in the two cultures as well as my own struggle for identity through Ideallision. The garments became a kind of cultural hybrid, incorporating and combining design elements and materials from Japan and the West. Exaggerated and distorted silhouettes in the garments address conflicting notions of the ideal female form in both cultures.
